News from AAA Oklahoma, Feb. 19 2007 – AAA, the foremost motoring and travel organization in North America, has announced its membership has reached 50 million.
Founded in 1902 in Chicago by a handful of local automobile clubs, the not-for-profit public service association is the largest paid membership organization in the nation.
“The 50-million mark is important because it means we’re growing – we’re doing things right,” said Neal Krueger, President and CEO of AAA Oklahoma. “But what really matters is how we’re serving our 300,000 members in Oklahoma, how well we’re handling that next call for AAA emergency road service.”
Through the years, AAA’s basic promise has not changed: to provide the services, information and tools needed to make travel as safe, efficient and affordable as possible.
To that end, AAA continues to work on state and federal levels for adequate funding of road systems, for more protective laws governing teen drivers, for child passenger safety legislation covering children through age eight, and for giving motorists a voice in the development of sustainable energy policies that will ensure our mobility.
AAA has grown into the largest provider of roadside problem solving in the nation, responding to approximately 30 million calls for help each year. The organization is also the largest leisure travel agency in the U.S.
As the publisher of 166 million copies of travel-related materials annually – including AAA maps, TourBook travel guides and CampBooks, customized TripTik routings, road atlases and retail guide books – AAA is one of the largest travel-related publishers in the world.
“By introducing innovative new services, such as Internet AAA TripTiks available at www.AAA.com, continuously developing new products such as mobile auto battery testing and battery installation, and increasing our member savings through AAA’s popular “Show Your Card & Save” member discounts, we continue to provide high quality products and services plus good value to new members and to those who have been with us for many years,” said Krueger.
