AAA DONATES $8,157 IN SAFETY EQUIPMENT TO TULSA PUBLIC SCHOOLS
NEWS from AAA Oklahoma, August 8 – When Tulsa Public School district elementary schools resume classes Monday, students will be safer walking to and from school because of a donation of safety gear from AAA Oklahoma.
The $8,157 worth of Safety Patrol equipment includes bright yellow/green “Sam Browne” belts, caps, badges, Patrol handbooks and other pedestrian safety materials used by Safety Patrol units at elementary schools throughout Tulsa.
AAA Oklahoma has been the sole sponsor of school Safety Patrols since the program was first introduced by AAA in the 1920s. The Safety Patrol not only raises the safety level at and around schools, it teaches students basic lessons about taking responsibility and being accountable.
“Parents place their trust and care in the hands of members of the Safety Patrol every school day,” said Chuck Mai, spokesman for AAA Oklahoma. “These dedicated boys and girls are volunteers, serving at their ‘posts’ by assisting their classmates get across residential streets adjacent to school buildings. It’s vital work.”
The AAA School Safety Patrol program is the largest safety program in the world with more than 500,000 children participating at 50,000 schools throughout the country.
More than 220 elementary schools currently have active Safety Patrol units in Oklahoma. All patrol units are sponsored and equipped by AAA Oklahoma.
