Advocacy & Education
Since 1902, AAA has been a leader in developing and supporting transportation
policy as well as educational and safety programs for
motorists, pedestrians, cyclists and children.
Transportation
Policy and Government Advocacy
At a national level, AAA actively
represents the interests of motorists
and other travelers for fair transportation
taxes, traffic safety issues, energy,
environmental, travel and tourism
issues. Club experts testify before
the U.S. Congress on a variety of
issues including safer highways and
vehicles,
drunk driving prevention programs,
child passenger safety and truck
safety.
Locally, AAA Oklahoma monitors legislative
activities and proposes and drafts
legislation to benefit Oklahoma travelers,
reporting potentially significant developments
to members.
Traffic Safety
AAA seeks to advance
safety measures and allocate funding to maintain and
improve highways. Clubs work with the
National Highway Traffic Safety Administration
to set safety guidelines and promote
School Crossing Guard Programs, an
Annual Traffic Safety Poster Contest,
drunk driving prevention programs and
teen driving safety campaigns.
Voluntary tax-deductible donations
to the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety
provide funds so AAA can continue this
important work. If you’d like
to contribute, please send your donations
to: AAA Oklahoma, Traffic Safety Foundation,
722 N Broadway, Suite 401, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma 73102.
AAA’s
driver education course, we offer you “Take the Wheel,” AAA’s complete classroom and in-vehicle instructional program designed for parents to teach their teens to drive.
Oklahoma law allows teenagers who complete a Driver's Education course, including AAA's parent-taught "Take the Wheel" program to receive an unrestricted driver's license at an earlier age (16 1/2 years old) than students who choose to not take Driver's Education (17 1/2 years old) teaches teens the basics
of safe driving. The course compliments Graduated
Driver License requirements and addresses
the most common causes of crashes among
new drivers.
